Zorlu Energy Invests 200MW More in Solar in Pakistan

The goodwill agreement was signed in Çankaya Mansion with the participation of Binali Yıldırım, Prime Minister of the Republic of Turkey, and Nawaz Sharif, Prime Minister of Pakistan, as well as officials from both states and Olgun Zorlu, a Board Member of Zorlu Holding and Zorlu Energy, signed the contract. Ahmet Zorlu, Chairman of Zorlu Holding, made the following statement: “We hope that our bigger investments in solar energy will further strengthen our economic and social ties with Pakistan, a friendly and sister country for us.

Zorlu Energy, the investor of Pakistan’s first wind power plant, is adding another 200MW-project to the 100MW solar energy investment project it signed in the past few weeks. The goodwill agreement was signed at Çankaya Mansion with the participation of Prime Minister Binali Yıldırım and Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif as well as officials from both states. Attending the signing ceremony, Ahmet Zorlu, Chairman of Zorlu Holding said, “We are very pleased to grow our solar energy investments in Pakistan, the first country overseas market for our solar energy investments. We believe that solar is one of the most important energy sources of our future for us. Our new investment will energize our 100MW solar energy contract, which took place a few weeks after our application for the first and largest renewable energy application accepted by the Pakistani government in there years.  With this investment, we plan to expand our Group’s commercial area to the region and reach our target growth as well as increase Turkey’s power in the region. In this regard, I wish both agreements bring benefit to both countries.”

Sinan Ak, Chairman of Zorlu Energy Group, said “We are taking an important step to add a new project in Pakistan after our Quaid-e-Azam project, which has installed capacity of 100MW we announced last month. In addition to being a friendly country, Pakistan is an important center for our renewable energy investments. Having implemented the first wind energy project in Pakistan, we are very pleased to have signed the reference projects in solar energy. Similarly, we aspire to take our installed solar energy power to 300MW in Pakistan with our investments thanks to our newly planned project in the Punjab province.”

Following its announcement last month, Zorlu Energy plans to kick off the Quaid-e-Azam project this year with 100MW installed power.
